Berta Ruck, born Amy Roberta Ruck in 1878, was a prolific Welsh novelist known for writing over 90 romance novels from 1905 to 1972. She also authored short stories and memoirs, and she passed away in 1978, shortly after her 100th birthday. Inside the cover, it says: Love or Career? Here is a new romance by Berta Ruck, as fresh and alluring as its title.

It is the story of one Melody Wynne, a chorus dancer of good family, and with a temperament that causes her to treat the whole of life as a joy-ride escapade. When her devoted lover, Keith Cartwright, proposes to her, she tosses up as to whether she shall marry him and go off to India or continue her profession. The job wins, but only for the time being, and the end of the story shows why it was that love, this time, got the better of profession. Condition: The book is solid, and though it should be handled with care (96 years old), it's in good readable condition.

There is wear to the outside cover and the outer edging material of the spine, but all the pages are tight and securely fastened. My opinion is that this book presents very well, especially with the art deco image on the front and the aged look, and patina only adds to its authenticity. There are some stains to the outside edges of the pages, and inside, there's minimal foxing, mostly to a few pages, both front and back of the book. Inside the pages have some yellowing, again around the edges, along with just a couple of corner folds.

All of the pages are there and are very readable, solidly fixed to the binding. Please view all of the photos carefully. I can not find a first edition, hardcover copy of this book anywhere on the internet right now. I've checked everywhere, including the archives.
