It may have some character flaws but this book is still just as special as it was when it was first published over 100 years ago. This is a genuine first edition of The Vicar of Wakefield by Oliver Goldsmith, illustrated by Hugh Thompson and published by The Macmillan & Co. This is a very hard-to-find first edition. The illustration of the girl on a man's back on page 95 was considered controversial back in the day and it was removed in later printings and editions. The lettering is is very unique and the illustrations are equally so. Additional book deets are listed below. Genuine 1st edition, controversial girl on man's back illustration on page 95. Binding intact, pages are clean, top of spine is chipped and missing pieces, spine fraying, bottom of spine chipped off, some bubbling on back cover, bumped/bent corners, edge wear, some page discoloration throughout, and a slight lean nonetheless this antique gem is extremely charming.
