Later bindings in red cloth with gilt spine-titling. 10.75" x 8.5" approx.Text presented in three columns. Engraved frontispiece to volume one, by Heath after the portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds. Some relatively minor scuffing to cloth surface at head of spine to second volume. Cloth remains clean, nevertheless, and gilt bright. Small library blind-stamps to centre of each top board.
Smaller library stamps to foot of frontispiece, each title page, and each final leaf, with three or four more in-between. Larger reference library stamps to the verso of each title-page.
Old worm hole runs through the frontispiece, title-page and prefaces at the foot of each leaf approx. 45pp, and another to the fore edge of the rear 60 or so leaves of the same volume.
Occasional foxing and ghosting to prelims, and very occasionally and faintly thereon. Contents themselves remain very clean and bright throughout.
Bindings are square and tight, with no loose or absent leaves. Please see photos for further detail.
