RARE MID to LATE 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE'HILL'S ALPHABET BLOCKS, NO. 11,' with HINGED BOOK COVER, FEATURING LITHOGRAPHED, PRINTED AFFIXED PAPER COVER, CLOTH BOUND BOOK SPINE & MILLBOARD CONSTRUCTION, WHITE, RED & BLACK PAINTED FLAT WOODEN BLOCKS, with STENCILED LETTERING.

[Estate fresh, found in central New Hampshire & containing 18 wooden tiles , a complete set]. Mid-late 19th century Ame ri can antique lithographed painted wood learning games & alphabet block sets.

Box: 6 14" Width x 6" Height x 1 Height. Blocks: 1 3/4 " Height x 1 3/4 " Width x 1/4 in Depth.

This box contains 18 wooden tiles. Numbers & Letters, Front & Back, as follows. The cover lid's spine was apparently previously partially torn and re-glued with what appears to be rubber cement (acid-free and archival) to mend the split in the cloth bound spine's edge. This box contains eighteen (18) wooden tiles. The cloth spine had never fully broken away but was only partially torn on the very top and bottom, caused from repeatedly opening and closing the box of flat wooden blocks.

The lithographed printed, affixed paper graphic iconography on the cover is in spectacular, incredibly well-preserved condition. This post US Civil War Victorian game is complete and nearly as it was originally constituted. The corners of the book box show some very minor loss but the sides of the heavy millboard paper book box are free of dark stains, creases or weakened, folded corners.

The 18 hand painted, flat wooden alphabet letter and numeric blocks found inside the box have their original painted surfaces and dry, matte finish. An outstanding early Victorian game, circa 1875 and now some 145 years old. Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
