Rare! Injurious Insects of the Farm & Garden by Mary Treat 1882 HC Illustrated

  

This is a rare book for collectors and enthusiasts of antique books and entomology. The title is "Injurious Insects of the Farm and Garden" by Mary Treat.

And it was printed in 1882 by Orange Judd Company in New York. The book is bound in a luxurious linen hardcover with thick, etched cover boards, light gilding, and beveled edges. The book is a first edition and is heavily illustrated in exceptional detail, making it a wonderful addition to any collection. This is an exceptionally unusual find. It is in wonderful condition for its age. The webbing and stitching are strong and intact. This shows through behind the back cover board where the paper has worn in the crease of the last end page. The spine's top segment has torn along the seam but is sturdily connected on the opposing side.

Rub marks, small dings, edge and corner wear are present on the cover. This wear is minimal compared to other bindings of this age. The materials used in the crafting of this book were of exceptional quality. Great care and skill were used in its creation. The pages show some yellowing, with browning along the edges.

Page 51 seems to have missed the cutting process and hosts an uncut fore-edge. The book is free from writing minus a signature of ownership on the first blank page dated 1895. The most prominent examples of the before mentioned notes have been photographed for review.
