Rare Antique The Speaking Picture Book (c1880)

  

The Speaking Picture Book, Imitating the Cries of Animals: An amusement for the little ones' eyes and ears, c. Victorian book of sounds activated by the pulling of cords, eight animals.

The seven sounds - Cock, Donkey, Goat, Duck, Cat, Sheep, Horse are in working order, some sounds remarkably loud, others weaker & stiffer. Only the sound of Cows had a cord break during testing, so I can't confirm whether the sound will work. In total, eight chromolithographic illustrations.

The first main page being held in place by paper tape probably to avoid any further loosening of pages. Most pages with foxing marks, but pages are in fairly good condition. One page with Goat has visible pencil marks (which can possibly be erased with an eraser) - a photo is attached, other pages without pencil marks. Spine of the book shows signs of indentation.
