IMPRENTA DE LOS SENORES VIUDA DE JORDAN E HIJOS, EDITORES, MADRID 1843. BOOK MEASURES 9 1/4 TALL. Antique old leather has wear, edge wear, rubbing, scuffing, scratches, spots. Splits on spine, worn bumped corners, fraying.

Cover held on by threads. Front inside hinge totally cracked, pretitle page detached. Old insect damage about 1 long from spine area into pages.

(see picture, forms the v shape, on first 45 pages). Pages have various degrees of yellowing/age toning. The Codified and compiled text was originally called the Libro de las Leyes (book of laws).

The Partidas had great significance in Latin America as well, where it was followed for centuries, up to the 19th century. Although the conde concentrates on legislative issues, it has also been described as a "humanist encyclopedia", as it addresses philosophical, moral, and theological topics as well, including the Greco-Roman, Judeo-Christian and Islamic viewpoints.
