RARE ANTIQUE KIDS BOOK PEEPING PANSY MARIE QUEEN OF RUMANIA 1st Edition 1919

  
Very rare book in poor condition with no jacket. Original publishers red cloth with gilt illustration to front cover. 8 delightful tissue-guarded and captioned mounted colour plates. Also 8 full page black and white illustrations in text.

Plus numerous charming black and white illustrations throughout. Book is not dated, none of them were. Believed to be 1st edition 1919. Only first editions have GILT decorated binding. Measures 285mm x 215mm, (11 1/2 inches x 8 3/4 inches).

Book is in as seen condition showing heavy wear. Spine has been strengthened with red cloth binding which covers spine and infringes on front and back covers. Bumping and wear to corners on front and back covers.

Spots of colour loss to front and back covers and wear - especially to edges. On third page signed'E Simpson Xmas 1924. On inside front cover inscribed' To dear Samantha, Merry Xmas Darling, Love, Mummy & Daddy xx'79'. Inside front cover detached from spine at the third page, hence the cloth binding.

There are no other spine separations and the book is intact and complete. The 8 mounted colour plates are perfect. Some of the tissue pages covering them are slightly crumpled, the one on page 224 is detached, and the one covering the frontispiece has been sticky taped around the edges, many years ago. These tissue pages are the only torn or damaged pages in the entire book.

All other pages are complete with no tears and no foxing. Some finger and wear marks showing here and there, to be expected in a 100 year old book that has been so heavily used and loved. This book is worthy of restoration and even if you spent a few hundred dollars you would not be over capitalising.
