RARE Antique French 38 Page Shop Album Monogram Book c1880. Owned by a local general store (see last photograph) in the town of Alloue SW France, this delightful book has 38 pages of monograms starting on page one with a selection of smaller monograms for chemises etc getting larger towards the end of the book for sheets, tablecloths etc. Some are hand painted, printed on thinner card type paper. Each monogram is given a corresponding number so that ladies or their maids could make an order for various clothing, kitchen linens and sheets.

These items were then given to local ladies in the area to "embroider to order". I love the page with the names and crowns of a Marquis or Baron...........

Perfect for tracing and using for your own linens and embroidery projects, add to a collection. Undated but going by the style of these monograms and the old accounts books that came out of this sale I would say c1880s. Length - 13.3/4 (35 cms). Width - 10.1/4 (26 cms).
