An original, first edition copy of C. Montalto de Jesus's Historic Shanghai of 1909, in near-fine condition. Published by the Shanghai Mercury Limited, the book has blue cloth covers with gilt lettering, 257 pages with several foldouts and maps, plus 25 photographic illustrations.

De Jesus' study is one of the earliest broad-reaching publications on the history of the great city of Shanghai in English. See photo of contents and illustrations pages for content coverage. This book is very fresh!

Clean covers, gilt lettering not rubbed, very minor cloth wear on tip of front lower corner, slight warping/raising of the cloth on top left corner area (see photo). Some writing on the title page, including the name of the first owner and a date of May, 1909.
