Presented for your consideration is this RARE antique book. The book is titled, A Woman's Life Work: Including Thirty Years Service On the Underground Railroad and In the War, and was written by Laura S. It was published by S. This is the hard to find Memorial Edition of the book. The 637 page book tells of Haviland's experiences working on the Underground Railroad and during the Civil War.

Some of the experiences highlighted in the book are her early life, anti-slavery experiences, rescue of slaves, hospital work, Freedmen's Aid Commission, Prohibition, and teaching. In the back of the book are letters to Haviland from various individuals. Also in the back of this edition is a memorial section with tributes to Haviland. Haviland was an American abolitionist, suffragette and social reformer. She was a very important figure in the Underground Railroad and her family home was the first Underground Railroad station in Michigan.

She played a important role in the Detroit branch of the group and was considered the railroad superintendent. This book is a great biography about the historical figure and is a rare edition of the book. All pages appear to be intact and the book is finished with a green hardcover with silver embossing on the spine and front cover. A great book to read or to add to any rare book collection! The binding is loosening, causing a few pages to be loose from the binding.

There is a small tear in the lower right corner of each page. Light to mild cover edge wear. Overall in GOOD-VERY GOOD condition for its age. Please refer to the photos for the absolute best details.
