Rare and early original piece of folk art. This is a solid wooden book hand carved / painted and made by a local man of Martins Ferry Ohio.
A Cyclone devastated their town in April of 1887. I was told that this book was made from a tree that had demolished a local church in town. The man used the wood from tree to carve this out.
It is solid and very well made. Gold leaf pain on the binding of book. Small nails used to spell out the names and dates on front. The back very faintly reads Alex.
Davidson in gold leaf stenciling. Very odd and a great looking piece. Measurements are 6.1/2 tall x 4 1/4 wide x 1 1/2 inches deep.
