Rare and fabulous bound volume containing 26 issues - Janvier-Juin 1919 - of La Vie Parisienne, the risque/erotic'gentleman's' weekly magazine which began publishing in 1863 and continued without interruption until 1970. In 1905, the magazine changed hands and the new editor changed its format to suit the modern reader and it developed a reputation as a risque erotic publication. In terms of its illustrations, this was its hey day and this volume contains many of the full colour illustrations - covers and inside - by the likes of George Barbier et al, as can be seen in all their glory here. This volume contains many full-colour plates, including the covers of all the weekly issues, as well as many black and white pages with adverts etc. Inside are the following issues.
Janvier 4, 11, 18, 25; Fevrier 1, 8, 15, 22; Mars 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; Avril 5, 12, 19, 29; Mai 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; Juin 7, 14, 21, 28. Condition: very good for age. The leather binding on the spine is intact but the hardboard cover is a little marked and battered as you would expect (please look at pictures). Inside the pages seem to be pristine, apart from a slight tear at the bottom of page 96 (see pic) and further on, 1 page has been half cut out and later on someone has cut something out of the centre of one of the pictures. I have tried to show all of this in the pictures.. Given how old this is though, it feels barely used and the quality of the paper and printing, the glowing colours of the full colour plates - not to mention the intriguingly intimate adverts!
