This listing is for an extremely rare antique german book, the "Legende Der Heiligen Gottes" published in 1890 authored by L B de Castell. It is a Religious German Hardcover Book, in a sort of "saints of the day" style. It has a saint for each of the 365 days of the year. Each saint has their own page, with a beautiful illustration, colored detailed borders, and a long description/ history. The amount of time it must have taken to complete such a work, much less just the engraving plates, is staggering.
There are many many saints in it, and since this work was published in 1890, some of them may be completely foreign to a modern reader. It also has some hand written notes in the front and back blank pages, giving insight into previous owners, as well as a slip of paper that I believe records birth or death dates of family members- see photos.
It is a wonderful work for collectors, gifting, display, or for churches / schools to use as an educational tool, and a fantastic window into the past. It is in good antique condition. It has a hardcover front and back. As with many books this age, there are a few issues with the binding- it is not falling apart in the readers hand, but it could do with some refurbishment.
There is one page section that has slipped out, to my knowledge it is the only one, and I have kept it included with the book. The pages have the minor wear, light age / coloration / and in some pages tiny edge tears that you would expect to see with a book like this- keep in mind that with its contents it was a book meant to be handled every day by its readers. I believe it could be rebound without undue difficulty, or kept as is for now. Thank you for your consideration, comes as shown- please see photos for details and measurements.
