IT IS CONSIDERED THE FIRST PRINTED BOOK IN HISTORY THAT SHOWS DIAGRAMS ON TROOP MOVEMENTS, MILITARY TRAINING, CAMP ORGANIZATION, PREPARATIONS FOR BATTLE, AND MUCH MORE. Publisher: Eucharius Silber, Rome, October 24 - November 3, 1494. This is a very rare Incunable is in excellent condition. In quarto (21,5 x 16,5 cm); 104 pages, full page text ; 40 lines per page; Roman type letters ; wood cut capitals; chapter headings by hand; subtitles and new paragraphs marked by red signs. It is probably the first book which includes interesting typographical diagrams on troop formation and movements.

The later binding is from a fragment of a fifteenth century manuscript, in colors. The book is one of the first printed works on a military topic, as well as one of the first publications in installments.

It is composed by three parts, printed on three different dates of the same year, the last one without a colophon. This Rome edition is remarkable because of its careful production by Eucharius Silber, making it a choice example among incunabula. The work is based on comments by Cato, Celsus, Trajan, Adrian, and Fontinus. This Vegetius, which was often imitated during the Renaissance, is one of a handful of classics that has reached our time complete. The book details Roman military organization and methods and is structured as follows. On soldiers: recruitment and training.
