Guizot Muller Lossing Knight Antique Vintage History Books FULL SET RARE
Up for your consideration is the only complete set of these books I could find. Even after searching the vastness of the internet you only find one volume here, maybe one volume there.
Printed and bound by the Gay Brothers in New York, published for the Home Educational League of America for the well-to-do folk. They bought the rights to the TOP historians of the day such as Guizot (France), Muller (Germany), Knight (England), and Lossing (United States). These have about a hundred beautiful engravings per book, many of them full-page. As noted these books were published in a series of 6 books, and this includes all 6 books matching. Up to 900 pages per book, genuine hand-marbling on all edges, solid hardcover books with gold gilt.
Inside each book is an interesting note declaring it to be a Federal crime for anyone other than one of their subscribers to own the books. But that does mean when published these were extremely hard to get and expensive. AMAZING condition for 119 year old books.
One of the USA books has a gouge in the cover as pointed out in the 7th photo. Aside from that these books appear unread, sharp pages and seeing as there's almost no browning on the pages these were printed on very high end paper. Some of the covers show storage wear. I have no concerns cracking these open and reading them as I would a new book.NO bookworm holes, NO water damage, NO musty smell. Kept in a dry smoke free environment. Not only the ONLY complete set available anywhere, but in better condition than any of the individual books you'll find.
