Frank Leslie's New York Journal Vol. Though he was born Henry Carter, the publisher of the New York Journal became famous under his pen name, Frank Leslie. An immigrant to the United States, Leslie worked alongside the famed P. Barnum before launching his own journal and other publications, including The New York Journal in 1855. The encyclopedic series covered a vast range of topics, from American history to technology to global affairs.

It helped shape the identity of the young United States, making it a significant part of our country's history. This second volume, published shortly after the first was launched in 1855, has still survived with its binding intact, though the cover and spine have begun to detach.
