Hc, black leather, dark brown corners and spine, gilt titles. Stunning blue marbled endpapers, small bookshop sticker in corner of edge, pages are clean and bright with no foxing. Pages are dimpled with hand cut edges, leaving a rough very luxurious impression overall. Front double fold out of painted coffin of Nes-Amsu, light crease on one side. Other plates are all single sided, monochrome and are all photographs of the collection.
She was painted three times by Whistler although the third portrait he destroyed because of an argument. Although she was not accepted into polite society, she led a very active life and was friend and patron to many artists, academics, and Politians. After her death much of her collection was auctioned off to William Randolph Hearst and now resides in America.
