Antique Unusual Rare 1886 Witchcraft Witch Hedgewitch Pressed Flower Album 1886

  
NB: Please read the item description, and check the photographs carefully, as they form a very important part of the description. Offered For Sale: A Victorian'Pressed Flower Album'. The album, entitled'English Wild Flowers', was made by a lady called Alice Piper. She started the album in August 1886, with the last contributions dated 1893.

Album Cover Description: The album cover, measures 8 " in length, and is 6 " wide, and 1. The cover is made from thick board, and the colour is black. There is a beige label on the front, handwritten by the owner with her name, Alice Piper, and the album title, English Wild Flowers'. Album Contents Description: The album contains, over fifty pages (one side only) of'English Wild flowers', also grasses, leaves, seaweed etc. Hand pressed, and labelled, by Alice Piper.

(Please see Photographs) The English'pressings', are at the front, and rear of the book. There are about a dozen pages in the centre of the book, with loose leaf paper, (from the Coffee Palace, in Sidney Australia, dated 1893).

(I have also pictured an example of this, in the photographs). Album Cover Condition: The album cover, is present, and accounted for, albeit very battered! (Please see photographs) There is creasing, marking, colour loss, chipping around the spine and edges, etc, etc. The pictures are the best way of describing it, so please study them carefully. The owner's name and album title, are still legible. There is no owner's name, or owner's book plate inside this album, but all the flower names etc, are handwritten. Obviously, due to it's age, and the nature of the album, there is yellowing, fraying, staining etc. However, all the pressed plants appear to be present and accounted for. The book has over 60 page sides of pressed plants, 120 sides, with the reverse of each'pressed' page, obviously being blank.

All pages are present and correct, however, the inner title page has become fully detached, (please see photographs) and the first 8 pages of flowers, (so 16 sides, blank to the reverse) although still stitched together, are completely detached from the front of the book. The rest of the pages, are still securely stitched in place. This excludes the'Sydney Coffee Palace' sheets, which are folded, and slotted into the empty central section of the album.
