Profusely illustrated with 306 vignette woodcut illustrations (per title page, un-collated) to majority of pages + steel-engraved frontis. Publisher's olive cloth elaborately decorated in profusive gilt tooling to covers and spine. Covers quite good, moderately soiled, corners/edges bumped and rubbed.

Rear hinge torn through the cloth about 3/4 of the length. As a result, spine backstrip torn and pulling away.

Heavy chipping and fraying to spine tips, with some loss, especially at top. Ages moderately toned but generally clean. Preliminaries and frontis heavily foxed, including tissue guard.

All edges in magnificent gilt. A worn but still handsome volume, filled with exquisite engraved illustrations.
