"Le Corset", French - Limited Edition. A limited edition large book on corsets called "Le Corset".
This is a rare limited edition. I have found a few others on various antique book sites but none is exactly the same. The most expensive had coloured illustrations and the cost of this was in the thousands of pounds. A few others have been similar but the illustrations have varied.
I have not found an edition exactly the same as this book. I believe the book comes in its original cardboard box and has a label to the side saying "Libon et Clouzot Le Corset". The books is about 11 3/4 inches across by just over 16 inches in length.
It is about 1 1/2 inches thick. The book itself is covered in brown paper with typed text saying Libron, F et Clouzot H. The book is in French which I cannot read but there are lots of illustrations that give you an idea as to what the book is about. The actual front cover is plain cream with Le Corset in large cold capital letters.
There is a 1 inch tear in this cream cover about 1 inch up from the end by the spine. This tear does not affect the pages inside. The cover is card of some kind I think. On the first plain page inside the book someone has written in pencil No.This is confirmed on the inside of the book on one of the pages, typed. The pages are cream and edges are rough not like today's modern pages.
The paper is thick too and reminds me more of blotting paper. What I would call the start of the book proper shows Photograph 2 - a man cutting cloth. This is covered by a semi transparent cover.
The opposite page is announcing the book properly with Le Corset appearing in red letters. There are various pictures cover by semi transparent paper and there are lots of illustrations in black and white, some of which I show. There are about 170 pages in the book. Not sure if the index (I think) at the back is included as a page. This is a heavy book and a large book. Finally, my last photograph looks like a letter and I have had this translated.
This is basically what it says. The letter in the book is from a man (Mr Josselin) writing to His Excellence the Minister of Commerce & Manufacture. Basically, he is saying that further to the letter he had the honour to receive from the Minister the day before, he went to his offices to find out about the trimmings a Mr Baudesean had patented to be used on some corsets. But the difference in price between what Mr Baudecean had chosen, and what he (Mr Josselin) could afford to actually use in manufacture, was so great that he felt obliged to persist in his demand (to use the materials he had originally chosen and Not Mr Baudesceans choice) and he asks that His Excellency follow up and repond to Mr Baudecean on his behalf, to sort it out. Then he signs it Your humbline and extremely obedient servant. The item "Antique French Book on Corsets, Very Rare Le Corset Limited Edition 1933" is in sale since Saturday, August 19, 2017.
