Antique Books Lot Pair 1802 JG Seum Gilt Spine Embossed Cover Rare Home Decor. Measure about 5" × 6".

Johann Gottfried Seume (1763 - 1810). Books titled "Seume's Werke". Ornate gold scrolling on spine and (see pictures) highly embossed on front and back covers.

Excellent shape, especially for the age. Seume was admired by Ludwig van Beetoven and Beetoven is known to have had two volumes of Seume's works in his personal library.

Some have speculated Seume's poem "Die Beterin" ("The Pleader") had something to do with Beetoven's "Moonlight Sonata".
