Up for sale is this very rare 1868 copy of The Child's Own Book of Standard Fairy Tales. The book is beautifully illustrated by Gustave Dore and Geogre Cuikshank with 8 great black and white engravings. The book has been professionally rebound at some point in the fairly recent past. It retains its original fabric for the front and back covers as well as most of the original spine covering. The book has new endpapers.

There is a period inscription in fountain pen on one of the front blank flyleaves. The interior is toned from age with occasional foxing, soiling, smudging, and grubbiness. A couple of pages have about an inch long tear to the outer margin, no text is affected.

Along with that their may be the occasional page with some other kind of small imperfection, like a creased page corner, tiny chip or tear, minor marking, etc. Some of the fairy tales the book contains are from the Brother's Grimm and The Arabian Nights. A list of the contents can be seen in the 2nd to last photo. All in all a really great and rather scarce antique fairy tale book illustrated by two of the greatest illustrators of the 19th century.
