Up for sale is this rare antique 1671 vellum bound entomology book, Francisci Redi Patrii Aretini Experimenta circa Generationem Insectorum ad Noblissimum Virum Carolum Dati. The book is overall in good condition. It is a fairly small volume which measures approximately 5 1/2 inches by 3 1/8 inches and is 230 pages long with an additional unnumbered index at the rear.

The book is illustrated with 28 full page plates at the rear, 9 (out of 10) folding plates within the text, a couple woodcuts (one of which is a full page), and an extra illustrated title page. One of the folding plates called for is missing. One of the other folding plates has a narrow strip missing out of it's outer edge, though the actual image doesn't appear to be affected.

The vellum covers only have some minor soiling at wear. The endpapers are replaced with modern paper. The binding of the book is good and seems strong. The interior is lightly toned from age but is mostly nice and clean, though there may be the very occasional page with some scattered light foxing, soiling, or grubbiness. Along with that there may be the very occasional page with some kind of other minor imperfection such as a tiny chip or small tear, light wrinkle, creased page corner, etc.

Generally though, it's a nice copy. The text of the book is in Latin. Please look at the photos to further note the condition and message me with questions you may have.
