Illustrated with 19 full page black-and-white plates plus the title page by Edouard Riou. Publisher's ads are not in this edition. The bright green boards have some rubbing on the edges and a few smalls stains and bumped corners. The Gold printing is in very good condition. The top of the binding has some wear.
The front end page has a previous owners name written in pencil. The pages are free of rips, tears, writing and stains. The pages are slightly toned. This is a very nice copy of one of Jules Verne's great classics and a must for any great collection. This edition has less illustrations than the deluxe version that was also published in 1874, however the publisher kept the page sequence the same.
The book shows that there are 413 pages, but with the elimination of some of the illustrations there are really less pages, but reading matter is consecutive and complete. This is original to this edition. (1833 1900) was a French painter and illustrator who illustrated six novels by. Jules Verne, as well as several other well-known works.
