Published in 1889, this scarce copy of the classic "The Vicar of Wakefield" by Oliver Goldsmith is heavily decorated. Bound in deep blue calf leather with gilt rules, its compartmented spine is embossed with gilded floral patterns. Still vivid inner dentelles line the gorgeously hand marbled endpapers. Profusely illustrated with color cut-ins on brilliantly gilt-edged pages it stands rather apart from other copies of this title.

This heavy book is about 10 inches tall by 6 1/2 inches wide. Its leather is smooth and healthy but there is some light sunning on the top of the cover and light scuffs to back and front.

Its hinges are cracking through the cover but holding well and its corners are bumped and abraded. There is a small frame of discoloration to the endpapers, which are otherwise clean, and a chip from the first cover page. The contents are otherwise clean and the binding is very strong.
