MINNA IN WONDERLAND And Roland and His Friend. Published in 1871 by Porter & Coates, Philadelphia. 6 x 5 cloth hardcover. Exterior as shown in photo with some mottling and puckering of cloth on front board. Small tidemark on frontis and title page. Text is clean and complete. No torn loose or missing pages. Oddly, book has a handwritten presentation inscription on first prelim dated Dec. 16, 1869, although the date of publication is 1871. Following the wild success of Alice In Wonderland , in 1865, some authors and publishers scrambled to capitalize on Lewis Carrolls success by issuing their own Wonderland adventures featuring ersatz Alices who sojourn to underground realms and have adventures there. These Alice imitators, or pastiches, have become highly collectible in their own right, particularly early books such as this one, MINNA IN WONDERLAND, which was published in 1871, just six years after the original. (Although a handwritten inscription on the first prelim is dated 1869).

The tale is told in verse and features two engraved plates. A second tale, Roland and His Friend is also included. Remember folks, this is an 1871 original. This book is 148 years old. Please be sure to add me to your List of Favorite Sellers.
