This rare History of West Point was written during the Civil War, which is perhaps why it is so scarce. This copy was rebound by the New York Historical Society in 1957. The full title page reads. Military Importance During the American Revolution. Adjutant of the Military Academy.
London: Sampson Low, Son, & Co. There are illustrations, small maps, charts, and even one color illustration.
There are 3 foldout maps, all of which are in tact. The first foldout map is an 1863 map of West Point. There is a small split in this map in the middle, as pictured. The second foldout is an 1863 Plan of West Point. This map has a small tear in its left side near the binding. The last map may actually be a 1780 map, although we cannot say for sure. The caption reads that it is a copy of a 1780 map, so it is not the original, yet its paper is slightly different from the other maps included. There is a one page printout from the New York Historical Society that explains the provenance of these maps including the possible 1780's map, which is also why we feel it may truly originate from that time. Please refer to the pictures and ask any questions you may feel relevant.
