TITLE PAGE AND SOME PAGES ARE DETACHED. Giovanbattista Palatino was a native of Rossano in Calabria, who afterwards acquired Roman citizenship.

Little is so far known of his life, beyond what is to be inferred from his works. He was one of the most deservedly popular and one of the most accomplished and versatile of Renaissance scribes. He was prominent in the intellectual circles of his time, and appears to have been on terms of friendship with Claudio Tolomei, Dionisio Atanagi, and Girolamo Ruscelli. He was Secretary of the Academia dei Sdegnati, founded during the pontification of Paull III by Tolomei and others. According to a document by A. Bertolotti Palatino was associated with G.
