READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH. These fabulous, Globe-Shaped Book Ends are made of. Lucite from the mid century mod period. With 20th century, mid century style, a key element was the use of new, cutting edge materials and processes. Lucite afforded designers the ability to create clear objects that were solid and beautiful, but not as fragile or heavy as glass.The process of casting Lucite was still being perfected and they, for the most part, kept the designs simple. This was perfectly suited towards minimalism and these bookends are a great lucite design, showcasing the clear & smoky hued spheres, with a design of bubbles encased in each one. The bubbles are slightly different in each of these clear-smoky globes, making them unique pieces. These rare Italian bookends are now interior design status symbols sought after by. By interior designers and decorators. Few were made and were marketed to the design conscious of the late sixties.
Time has dwindled their numbers and now damage-free surviving sets are quite hard to obtain. These bookends are in great vintage condition.
