Rare Historic Antique Victorian Herbarium and Scrap Album. Associated with the Anchor Line Steamship, S.

11.5" x 10.5" Inches. This great unique album was created by Miss Jennie DeVore, president of the Pennsylvania College for Young Women. Contents were collected to serve as document to a European overseas student class tour, chaperoned by Miss Devore, with fifteen of her female students. The two month trip began on June 20, 1896, departing from New York to Glasgow, Scotland, via the S.

First page and inside cover contain newspaper article with list of students, and printed list of passengers of the S. Furnessia departing on Saturday, June 20, 1896 (which include Miss Devore and her students). A hand-drawn illustration of the Furnessia also appears on inside front page. Performance program for June 26th, 1896, appears on the following page.

Contents on proceeding pages include gathered hotel stationary and other printed paper memorabilia, but most importantly include preserved plant specimens, which are all labeled to the places from where they were collected. Locations of collected plant specimens include. Glasgow University, The Trossachs, Bollach Pier, Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine, Inversnaid, Holywood Palace, Albert Memorial (Edinburgh), Melrose Abbey, Dryburg Abbey, Abbotsford. Girton College (Cambridge), Durham Cathedral and Castle, Hampton Court (London), Kerr Gardens, Windsor Castle, MORE.
