Extremely Rare Conserved Antique Masonic Georgian Book The Antiquities of Free-Masonry Dated 1823. Edition from notes seen in opening pages: London: Printed by COX and Baylis, Great Queen Street. Authors Masonic Official Capacity: Provincial Grand Chaplain for the county 0f Lincoln. 273 printed pages on heavy cotton stock including four-fold-out antiquarian maps/plates. Showing the Dispersion & Settling of Stations by the Descendants of Noah.

Egypt Showing the Places mentioned in the Holy Scriptures. (21.2 cm) x 5¾ IN (14.7 cm) x 1 ¼ (2.7 cm) thick: total weight at 650 grams. The nature and age of this book make it extremely rare and highly collectible.

It is because of this reason that I have had the binding of the book completely rebuilt by a specialist English bookbinder in Nottingham and following the original binding stock specification. Picture two shows the book as I found it in a sad condition in a private New York Collection: as you can see the bindings and boards were close to a fatal failure and this risk was appreciated that the knowledge held within the pages as printed in 1823, could be lost forever.

Upon professional inquiry, it was felt that a rebuild was preferable to remedial work as the condition was just too delicate indeed, I was lucky to get it across the Atlantic in one piece. The new spine and corner bindings are in robust originally matched soft brown leather with detailed gold gilding: the boards are of the same stock design as those seen to the original book bound in 1823 in London: The book has been saved and the original contents protected for future generations: The rebuild has taken three months to complete and at some bespoke cost (invoice available upon sale). The opening advertisement for the book prior to the preface. This volume is laid before the public, in the present extension and the increasing popularity of Free-Masonry, with a view of recommending, is as an auxiliary to Religion.

If this attempt meet approbation of my Brethren, I shall probably complete the undertaking at some future time, by laying before then a View of the Two Additional Periods of Masonry, ending with the Advent of Jesus Christ; in which the Science, or its substitute, will be investigated, in all the various forms which it assumed, in every nation and amongst every people of the ancient world. View of Masonry as it existed from the Creation of the World to the time of Enoch. On the Origin of the Arts and Sciences.

View of Masonry from Enoch to the Universal Deluge. View of Masonry from the Deluge to the Offering of Isaac. View of Masonry from the Offering of Isaac to Deliverance from Egyptian Captivity. On the Five Mystic Points of Fellowship.

View of Masonry from the Deliverance to the Dedication of King Solomons Temple. External finishes as new from total rebuild to spine, boards, gilding and inner heavyweight double cartridge pages to front and rear: The inner title page may be absent? All pages thumb well from front to back and assisted greatly by the remedial measures taken with a fine sectional concave edge profile to all pages within the bound context.

Some limited foxing to pages and margin pencil notes seen occasionally in English: all maps are folded with fine creases and no cracking seen: overall very fine and safe for viewing with care. The book is now fully secure and complete for bookshelf display and esoteric study. I acquired the book in 2016 and it then went under specialist conservation within my own private collection.
