Antique rare+ book, Grimms fairy tales & Household stories, colour illustrations

  

GRIMMS FAIRY TALES AND HOUSEHOLD STORIES. Most likely a 1st Edition. This is a rare illustrated edition of "Grimms Fairy tales and Household stories", it has a full colour frontispiece and two other full page colour illustrations, there are six full page black & white illustrations and approx.

32 in text back and white illustrations. This edition features many of Grimm's famous stories including, The frog prince, Cinderella, Little red riding cap, Rapunzel, the Golden goose and many many more.

In total there are 369 pages of wonderful stories. The book condition is good, spine worn at top and bottom, a light scratch through title. Light scratches on front and back boards with corners bumped and some wear.

Endpaper has been cut vertically by about a 2. There is a hinge crack between pages 68 & 69 as well as 276 & 277, some light foxing and stains appearing sporadically throughout book but more so on frontispiece tissue and back page. A good solid book with a pleasant appearance, although the hinge is a little on the loose side giving the pages a uneven appearance. The front board has a purple/brown cloth with gilt titles and mythical figures with black Forna and swallows.

The spine has a gilt banner with black titles and gilt writing and illustrations as well as Publishers name at bottom. The back board is plain in colour and texture.

Pages have a nice thick feel and all text is good with no irritation from foxing or stains for a 100 year old plus book, interestingly, there are a few explanations at some of the footer's from the Translators because the German to English sometimes doesn't come across. I personally haven't seen or heard of this edition before and therefore in my opinion I would consider it a rare book. Book measures 8" x 5.5". I have done my best to describe this book based on my current knowledge, but nobody is perfect.
