The book is a beautiful large silver fronted Common Prayer book, much larger than the usual miniature books of this type, and therefore containing a greater weight of silver. Full English hallmarks as follows.
W C - silversmiths William Comyns. A leopard's head - the hallmark of the London Assay Office. A lion passant - the hallmark of Sterling silver. The date letter' i' - for 1904. The book measures 5" x 2.5" x 1 deep 125mmm x 65mm x 30mm.
There are 840 pages printed on fine India paper, 365 in the Common Prayer section and 475 in Hymns Ancient and Modern. All page edges are gilt.It is bound in brown grained leather with gilt titles on the spine, in very good condition. The silver is in excellent condition, with no splits or damage. The design is prominent and unworn. The pages are in clean and undamaged condition, with minor corner creasing to a few of the pages. The binding is tight with no loose pages.
The title page is missing. The are small marks on the endpapers and two small holes in the rear free endpaper. There is a touching note on the verso of the fly leaf page, saying' Reg. Brought this book home from Poland in May 1945.
