Biblia, das ist die gantze Heilige Schrifft alten und neuen Testaments verteuschet durch Doct. Basel: Bey und in Verlag Emanuel Thurneysen, 1753 A beautiful 18th Century folio German Bible. With illustrations and tooled vellum binding. Very archaic looking embossed / intricately tooled pigskin vellum binding over thick and heavy boards, aggressive raised bands to the spine, and detailed metal bosses at the corners (lacking two of the 8), lacking the clasps but retaining the metal engraved catches and bases. Binding with hinges still strong, although the lower cover has some tearing, discoloration and warping to the pigskin due to moisture damage many moons ago.

Some chips, opening, peeling and tears to the vellum on the spine as well; the crown of the spine with light loss. Forgiving the first 10/last 5 or so leaves, which are detached with various degrees of edgewear, loss and light staining (as shown), the binding of leaves is quite firm, and the pages remain in good shape.

Main block following upper section with a few small blemishes, wear points and age related wear, toned, else fine. A unique head-turning antique 18th century design, with great character, and some expected heavier wear. Measures 16" tall, 11" wide, and 4 thick; this is unique and a piece to remember.
